Looking at the Location of Broadstairs

The town of Broadstairs was once referred to as Bradstow. It's east of London by 76 miles and known to tourists as the Jewel in Thanet's crown. It's one of the seaside resorts that is found on the Isle of Thanet.

Also known as the Star of the sea, it has settlers known as far back as 14th century. The name broadstairs came from the stairs that are carved into the chalk cliffs, they led up to a shrine. It was born as a fishing settlement, and now is mostly one of tourism.

By the way those stairs mentioned previously, you can still find them in the location. Check it out; it's really an awesome thing to see. 1440 showed the development of an archway that would lead to the sea. It was made a bit more reliable later on in the year of 1538.

Still a pretty small town of 300 inhabitants in 1723, the town though would continue to grow. Fishing would still be the mainstay of the town.

Some sort of repair was required to help withstand those French threatening during the Revolutionary Wars in 1795.

It seems that around this time another industry became important in the area. That is one of smuggling. 1824 showed the arrival of steamboats, which helped out the trading process with London. The railways would not make their way into the area until 1863.

Boat building began to see an upsurge in the 1840s in this area. Besides the broadstairs you need to see Kingsgate Castle. A lovely location. This town of Broadstairs is not only rich in history for its maritime accomplishments but so much more.

Check out the tourist town of Broadstairs and see why it's called the Jewel of the Inlet. But besides the beach check out the castle and other great things.
