Sea and Sand in Grange-Over-Sands, Cumbria

If you're touring through the North West of England, and you want to catch a glimpse of a classic Edwardian-era seaside resort, then the sea and the sand in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria is definitely the destination for you. The town with one of the mildest climates in the North of England has the benefit of looking upon not only Morecambe Bay but also much of the fells (mountains) of the Lake District in which Grange sits.

Much like Barrow-in-Furness, over by the Irish Sea, Grange-over-Sands owes its real beginnings to the construction of the Furness Railway, which helped transform it from a sleepy little fishing village into a popular resort for people in both the Victorian and Edwardian Eras of British history.

Architecturally, many of the most magnificent of the buildings within Grange-over-Sands are made of limestone, which has a natural beauty all its own.

Also, the mild climate in the region helps to keep much of the town in a non-weather beaten state, which is easy on the eyes and memorable after a stopover in the town.

There are more than a few sites worth seeing while visiting the town, including Holker Hall and Gardens, the family home of the Lord and Lady Cavendish, which has some of the best gardens in all the United Kingdom and also hosts the annual Holker Garden Festival, taking place every June.

Grange-over-Sands has a lively and vibrant shopping district, with shops and stores sure to tempt even the most travel-hardened visitor. Naturally enough, in a town this nice, there are many pubs, restaurants and cafes that offer a huge variety of food and drink.

The ceremonial county of Cumbria, in which Grange-over-Sands sits, boasts a population of nearly 500,000 people spread across a diverse and always-interesting land area. One can do far worse than deciding to get a bit of sea and sand in picturesque Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria.
